Tod demonstrates the Santiam Slide... about a 10' drop over a 30' smooth rock chute carved in the river bed.
This is the best natural slide I have been on... what a blast! The second time through I held both arms up out of the way of the chute edge.
We used a UV light to clean the water of little invisible beasts. Not sick yet, so it may have worked. Saved carrying water by the gallon. Easier to use than a filter pump.
Here is he largest diameter tree we saw, but there were plenty of Douglas Firs as tall as 150' along the trail/road.
We drove out over FS road 2207 which is graded and passable for passenger cars. Two years ago large boulders and snow made the route more exciting. We had coffee and hotcakes at The Cedars in Detroit... under new management and the coffee was wonderful as well as the cakes.
