After the three rafts ran the rapid we tried to get the first raft out
of the eddy that same day. We were unable to drag it out with ropes so
spent the night. The next morning Zhang, John and I climbed aboard to
try to row it out of the eddy into the mainstream. In doing so the raft
flipped. We went downstream to joing the other three, which left the rest
of the team stranded on the far bank. Paul Sharpe was able to guide the
others as they swam the now gentle river. He made several trips to transport
stranded gear.
