The Crown Point Caper 1972
Crown Point next to I-84 has a large crack on the west end and the large tooth is called Alpenjager. The Adam's Terrain Exploration class climbed the crack one afternoon... the route shown in white dots on the first image.
The second image is a closer view and the numbers refer to the positions of the next three images taken during the climb. We parked at Rooster Rock State Park, crossed the highway and scrambled up the talus slopes to the base of the climb. Tod Wagner (1) led the first pitch up to the base of the crack. Brian Moertel led the second pitch (3) gaining access to the crack and on to the top of the chimney. We reached the top of Alpenjager, crossed over to Crown Point and then found our way back down through the woods and returned to our rides. The climb was rated a 5.5 and was the class's most daring ascent.
